A Phenomenological Study about Music Therapist's Experiences of Vocal Psychotherapy

Abstract
This study was to investigate the efficiency of voc al psychotherapy to explore the experiences of music therapists, and bring about the essences and meanings of vocal psychotherapy. Seven music therapists were selected to participated in this study and data gathered through semi-constructed interview. Data were analyzed by using phenomenological research method of Giorgi(2009). The results of the study revealed that 132 meaningful units, 28 sub?components(sub-categories) and 5 components(categories) can be drawn. The 5 components were ¡¯various emotions-induced¡®, ¡®meaningful experience about self-discovery and self-reflection¡¯, ¡®therapeutic power of voice as nonverbal method¡¯, ¡®personal growth¡¯, ¡®professional growth¡¯. The experiences of vocal psychotherapy used tool that provided stability and comport, strengthened free and sense of freedom. And the experiences of vocal psychotherapy had a role of supportive tool to stir up a emotional expression freely that showed the way to the process of therapy and reduced resistance to therapy, The experiences of vocal psychotherapy for music therapist is the essential experiences for personal growth as well as professional growth.
